Why Morocco in 2026
Three things are driving HVAC work in Morocco at the same time: the 2030 World Cup programme, a tourism push with hotel capacity to match, and continued growth in export manufacturing around Tangier, Kenitra and Casablanca.
2030 FIFA World Cup and AFCON 2025
Morocco's six host cities for 2030 are Rabat, Casablanca, Fes, Tangier, Marrakesh and Agadir. The flagship project is the Grand Stade Hassan II, planned north of Casablanca with around 115,000 seats and put forward as a candidate venue for the final. Press reports put spending on the six stadiums at about USD 1.4 billion.
Much of the stadium work was brought forward for the Africa Cup of Nations, played in Morocco from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026 across nine stadiums in six cities. The Prince Moulay Abdellah stadium in Rabat was rebuilt as a football-only arena of roughly 69,000 seats and hosted the final. The Grand Stade de Tanger was overhauled to about 75,500 seats with a new roof and is being positioned for 2030.
Be realistic about what a stadium means for a duct shop. An open bowl needs relatively little ductwork: hospitality suites, media areas, kitchens, changing rooms and plant rooms. The bigger volume of supply, return and extract duct sits in the buildings around the tournament.
Hotels, airports and rail
- Hotels: in July 2026 Morocco said it plans to add about 60,000 hotel beds before 2030, on a base of just over 300,000, as it targets 26 million visitors a year by 2030. Hotels are duct-heavy: guest room fresh air, corridor pressurisation, kitchen extract, ballrooms and back-of-house.
- Airports: the national airports office ONDA awarded the main contract for a new terminal at Casablanca Mohammed V in December 2025, with completion slated for 2029 and a target of around 35 million passengers a year for the airport. Its Airports 2030 plan also covers Tangier, Marrakesh, Agadir, Rabat-Salé and Fes.
- Rail: construction of the 430 km high-speed extension from Kenitra to Marrakesh, through Rabat and Casablanca, started in April 2025 and is targeted for completion around 2029. New and rebuilt stations need ventilation, smoke control and air conditioning.
Reuters reported total government spending of more than MAD 190 billion on rail, roads, airports, stadiums and urban infrastructure ahead of the tournament.
Industrial zones
Factory HVAC is steadier than event work. Renault's Tangier plant built 299,395 vehicles in 2025, and Stellantis inaugurated an expansion of its Kenitra plant in July 2025 aimed at 400,000 vehicles a year. Suppliers cluster in the Tanger Med zones and Tanger Automotive City, the Atlantic Free Zone at Kenitra, and Midparc at Nouaceur near Casablanca airport, which focuses on aerospace. Paint shops, welding fume extraction, process ventilation and clean assembly areas all need heavier-gauge and sometimes stainless or welded ductwork.
Standards and codes for ductwork in Morocco
There is no single Moroccan duct construction code that replaces the European documents. In practice a Moroccan duct shop works to whatever the project specification names, and that usually means European standards, often with a French flavour.
- Moroccan standards (NM): published by IMANOR, the Moroccan standards institute. Many are adopted European standards with an NM EN reference; recent homologation decisions include NM EN titles in machinery and fire testing. We could not confirm NM editions of the duct standards below, so check the IMANOR catalogue if your client asks for NM references.
- EN 1505 and EN 1506: dimensions of rectangular and circular sheet metal ducts and fittings.
- EN 1507 and EN 12237: strength and air leakage requirements for rectangular and circular sheet metal ducts. The leakage class in the specification decides your seam, joint and sealing method. See our guide to air leakage classes.
- French practice: specifications are often written in French and may cite NF EN editions and French DTU documents. NF DTU 68.3, for example, covers mechanical ventilation installations in residential buildings. Our France duct fabrication guide explains how these documents are used.
- SMACNA: some international hotel operators and industrial clients write to SMACNA. If a job switches between SMACNA gauges and EN tables, confirm which governs before you cut metal.
- RTCM thermal regulation: Decree 2-13-874 of October 2014 set energy performance rules for new residential and tertiary buildings, mandatory since 2015, with requirements for each of Morocco's six climate zones. It drives envelope and HVAC load rather than duct construction, but it pushes designers toward tighter, better insulated systems.
On product safety, Morocco's Law 24-09 applies the Cم conformity mark to product families named in specific technical regulations; the Ministry of Industry lists low-voltage equipment, EMC and toys. Taokron machines are CE marked and ship with a Declaration of Conformity. Ask your importer whether your clearance needs any extra Moroccan documents, including user information in Arabic.
Importing duct machinery into Morocco
- Import VAT (TVA): 20%, the standard rate. Since 1 January 2026 Morocco has only two VAT rates, 20% and 10%.
- Parafiscal import tax (TPI): 0.25% of the value of imported goods.
- Customs duty: depends on the exact tariff line (folding, bending and forming machines are usually under HS 8462) and on the country of origin. Look up the current rate in the customs ADIL tool or ask your broker. We do not quote a figure here because it depends on classification.
- EU-Morocco Association Agreement: the last step of tariff dismantling for EU-origin industrial products took effect on 1 March 2012, so European-built machines enter free of customs duty, though VAT is still due. Machines of other origin pay the normal rate for their line. When you compare a European quotation with a Taokron one, compare landed cost.
- Incentives: companies in industrial acceleration zones benefit from exemptions on import duties and VAT. Larger projects can sign an investment agreement under the 2022 Investment Charter, with the equipment list validated before shipment. Thresholds and conditions change, so confirm with a Moroccan tax adviser before you order.
Containers usually land at Tanger Med or Casablanca. Choose the port nearest your workshop and tell us which one when you request a quotation.
Power supply: 220/380 V, 50 Hz
Morocco runs at 50 Hz, with low voltage supply nominally 220 V single phase and 380 V three phase (some references quote 230/400 V). Tell us the three phase voltage measured at your workshop and we wire motors, drives and the control transformer to suit. An auto duct line, a plasma table and a spiral tubeformer running together need a properly sized supply; your electrician should check the connection capacity with the distributor before the machines arrive.
Typical Moroccan shop set-ups and the machines that fit
Contractor shop, rectangular duct for fit-outs and residential
Many Moroccan HVAC installers make their own duct in a small workshop. A practical set is a Rectangular Duct Line II SBAL-II or Auto Duct Line SBAL-III, a Pittsburgh lockformer (SBLC series), a TDF flange forming machine and a pneumatic folder. That covers straight duct, TDF joints and simple fittings with a small crew.
Volume shop for hotels, airports and offices
Shops chasing hotel and transport packages need output and consistent quality across thousands of metres. The Auto Duct Line SBAL-V runs from coil to finished panel, a Plasma Cutter SBPC1550 cuts fittings from nested drawings, and a hydraulic folder handles heavier gauges and long bends.
Round duct
Spiral duct is common in exposed ceilings, car parks and industrial extract. The Spiral Tubeformer SBTF-1500 or SBTF-1602 forms round duct to 1,500 or 1,600 mm, and the Spiral Duct Flanging Machine SBFB-1600 turns flanges on round duct ends from 200 to 1,600 mm. For a real example, see Kavanagh Industries in Sydney, which added an SBTF-1602 in October 2026.
Industrial work
For automotive and process clients, the Automatic Stitchwelder SB-ZF1500 welds the seams of heavier round duct from 0.8 to 3 mm, and the stainless duct forming machine makes small-diameter stainless round duct from 100 to 500 mm for corrosive extract.
Labour and space
Morocco's non-agricultural minimum wage (SMIG) rose to MAD 17.92 per hour from 1 January 2026, about MAD 3,420 a month gross. Skilled sheet metal workers and machine operators earn more, and good ones are hard to keep once big projects start hiring. That is the main argument for automation: an auto duct line replaces much of the manual marking, cutting, notching and folding, so a small crew can supply several sites.
On space, the auto duct line is the longest item, with coil racks at one end and a run-out at the other. Ask us for a layout drawing based on your building before you sign a lease, and leave room for coil deliveries, finished duct storage and truck loading. Location follows the work: the Casablanca to Rabat corridor for most commercial projects, Tangier and Kenitra for industrial clients, and Marrakesh and Agadir for hotels.

FAQ
Which ductwork standards are used in Morocco?
Morocco's standards body IMANOR publishes Moroccan standards (NM), and many of them are adopted European standards carrying an NM EN reference. For sheet metal ductwork, specifications usually call up the European set: EN 1505 and EN 1506 for rectangular and circular dimensions, EN 1507 for rectangular duct strength and leakage, and EN 12237 for circular duct. Specifications are often written in French, and engineers trained in French practice may also cite documents such as NF DTU 68.3, which covers mechanical ventilation in residential buildings. Some international hotel and industrial clients specify SMACNA. Always build to the documents named in the project specification.
What voltage and frequency do duct machines need in Morocco?
Morocco runs at 50 Hz. Low voltage supply is nominally 220 V single phase and 380 V three phase, also quoted as 230/400 V. Tell us the measured three phase voltage at your workshop when you ask for a quotation so the motors, drives and control transformer are matched to your supply.
What taxes apply when importing duct machinery into Morocco?
Import VAT (TVA) is charged at the standard 20% rate, and a parafiscal import tax (TPI) of 0.25% applies to the value of imported goods. Customs duty depends on the exact tariff line, usually under HS heading 8462 for metal forming machines, and on the country of origin. Check the current rate in the customs ADIL tool or with your customs broker before you budget.
Do European-built machines enter Morocco duty-free?
Under the EU-Morocco Association Agreement, Morocco completed the removal of customs duties on industrial products of EU origin on 1 March 2012. VAT is still due. Machines of other origin pay the normal Moroccan duty for their tariff line unless an incentive applies, such as an industrial acceleration zone or an investment agreement under the Investment Charter. Compare landed cost, not only the ex-works price.
How will the 2030 World Cup affect ductwork demand in Morocco?
Morocco co-hosts the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal, with host cities Rabat, Casablanca, Fes, Tangier, Marrakesh and Agadir. Stadium hospitality areas, kitchens and changing rooms need ductwork, but the larger volume sits around the stadiums: a plan reported in July 2026 to add about 60,000 hotel beds, the new terminal at Casablanca Mohammed V airport due in 2029, and the Kenitra to Marrakesh high-speed line.
Which machines should a new Moroccan duct shop start with?
A shop making rectangular duct for hotels, offices and fit-outs usually starts with an auto duct line or a simpler rectangular duct line, a Pittsburgh lockformer, a TDF flange former and a folder. Add a spiral tubeformer when round duct is a regular part of your work, and a plasma table when fittings volume grows. Send your duct sizes, gauges and monthly output and a Taokron engineer will propose a machine set within 12 hours.
